How do I control sidebar and main content widths?

How do I change the width of the main content area and the sidebars? The main area is too narrow and the sidebars are too wide. You can see in the screen shot, the sidebars have no content:
When I inspected the page code, I saw the sidebars and main content area are using classes and IDs that aren’t defined in the CSS. The empty sidebars contain divs with inline styles defining width, and I have no idea where these divs come from:
Whether or not I enable “no padding content” makes no difference. I also removed the Search form from the sidebar.
