Courses are completed BEFORE students have completed the Lessons and Quizzes

Hi
Please can you assist with the settings to solve this problem. Students are enrolling on the course (set to 80 hours duration) but even though they did not complete the lessons or the quizzes, the students receive an email saying the course is completed. They are then unable to continue to study or take the quizzes as they are told that the course is completed. We have many courses and this problem is affecting all of them.
Please advise what settings can be changed to prevent this – the duration of 80 hours is set but the students should be able to study those 80 hours over a period of 2 months or so…
