Customizer is not saving or changing site

Hello,
When I try to customize my site (like the header/menu) it is not saving/updating. It seems to only work occasionally.
When looking in the console, I am frequently getting 404 and/or 500 errors when I try to change a setting (text color, for example).
How can I fix this so I can customize my client’s site?
