Footer Layout: Set Number of Columns & Container/Row Width

  I don’t see an option to select the number of columns and set the width of the footer container in your ‘Customize’ menu. For example, if I want to set the footer to 3 columns, full width row where do I do that?
  
  Is this a limit of the theme design? Do I need to edit the footer.php file directly?
