Replacing course featured image with an embedded link to an image

Hi. The featured image for a course requires an image to be uploaded, but intead I want to insert an embedded link to an image. I know that you can replace the course featured image with an embedded video using the ‘media intro’ box, but I don’t want to do this – I want to insert an embedded image. Nothing I’ve tried will allow me to do this. I thought I could do it using Fifu’s ‘Featured Image from URL’ plug-in, but this doesn’t seem to work either (it might if I sign up for the Pro version, but that’s expensive and might not work). If an embedded video can replace the course featured image, then surely an embedded image can, right? Pasting the embedded link into the ‘media intro’ box doesn’t work for images though. If anyone could help me solve this, it would be much appreciated.
