Upgrading to latest and activating thim core gives critical error; website down

Recently we noticed that the mobile version of our site shows a menu but it does not work. I suspect jquery issues due to recent changes in wordpress for this, so I renewed support to get the latest version of Charity WP. We use a child theme for our customizations so I thought I’d be good with upgrading the underlying theme.
I downloaded latest, and uploaded the theme .zip file via WordPress GUI. Site loaded but was not the same as before.
First issue was that our site icon/logo had been changed and a new Charity WP logo was added at the top of the page. Second issue was that mobile view didn’t display the site title or graphic or links.
I saw that the plugin page was telling me to enable Thim Core. So I did and immediately received this:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare thim_widget_preview_widget_action() (previously declared in /<homedir>/public_html/wp-content/plugins/thim-core/inc/class-thim-widget.php:2382) in /<homedir>/public_html/wp-content/plugins/thim-framework/libs/class-tp-widgets.php on line 2349

Now I must go revert the site.
So,
1) is this upgrade error a known issue? I don’t see a search function on this forum
2) is the mobile menu not working a known issue? -
