Using WP Events Manager outside Hotel WP

Hello,
I have used your Wp Events Manager plugin with your Hotel WP theme, and it works fine. But how can I use the Events Manager plugin outside the WP Hotel theme? After activation of the plugin in another theme it does not generate the virtual Events page (trying to access the events slug give a 404 error). I found and tried to use the shortcode [wp_event_list_event] on another page. The events I defined do show up with this shortcode (there are no tabs), but the links that point to events/<slug> do not work. What do I have to add to my custom theme to make this work?
